When it comes to first person shooters, there are few with as many unique character designs as Blizzard’sOverwatch. The game sports a wide variety of international heroes for gamers to play, all heralding from different parts of the world and characterized by Blizzard’s signature art style.Overwatchhas inspired a huge number of different artworks and cosplays by fans, expressing themselves through various mediums, and a new post on reddit has shown a unique way of doing so, via a custom controller design based onOverwatch’sOrisa.
Orisa is a tank hero inOverwatchwho became somewhat notorious during the game’s infamous GOATS meta, where competitive teams would use a team composition of three tanks and three healers to steamroll opponents with their incredible survivability. Orisa’s high health pool and easily sustainable shield made the hero a central part of the strategy and has created amixed opinion on theOverwatchcharacter at times, although clearly she still has passionate fans in thecommunity.

Reddit user pamelody has posted a wonderful controller design created with colored Sharpies and a spray on fixative in order to keep dust and other elements from messing up the image. The picture uses deep oranges and yellows to capture the smiling visage of Orisa, imprinted on the face of the controller and broken up by the buttons and control sticks. Many users noted that pamelody should make sure to use a resin or plasti-spray on the controller in order to stop the colors from bleeding onto their hands if they get into aparticularly sweatyOverwatchgame.
The artistic flair of this piece is a testament tothe talent of theOverwatchcommunity, with the controller taking on an entirely new appearance and capturing Orisa’s robotic face with aplomb. Luckily, being Sharpie, the controller has retained its smooth feeling, according to pamelody, and with a fixative, it’s unlikely for the colors to run too much, even during the most competitive games. This takes away the main concern of the design causing gameplay issues, and with such a stunning image of the protector of Numbani on it, the controller can only make pamelody play better.
Although not an official piece of Blizzard merchandise, the controller is something many would love to get their hands on, andwith Activision Blizzard embroiled in controversyrecently relating to horrendous treatment of female staff, it is nice to see that its titles can still inspire something positive. IfOverwatch 2manages to release without further condemning the company, perhaps custom controller designs could become part of the game’s merchandising.
Overwatchis available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
