Overwatch’s Mercy mains have had a tough time of late. With numerous changes to the support hero’s superjump abilities and with very few changes elsewhere, many players are frustrated with how Blizzard has handled her in the long-awaitedOverwatch 2beta. Now, however,Overwatchplayers have something to look forward to with a brand-new addition to her pool of cosmetics.

While players have been crying out for the return ofthe limited-time Pink Mercy skin, which saw players raise nearly $10 million for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, the skin is yet to make a return to the in-game store. Nevertheless, Blizzard has created a fresh new Mercy skin for players to marvel at – Royal Knight Mercy.

Announced via the @overwatchleague Twitter account, a video shows the impressive new skin coming to the game. The outfit sees Mercy don gold accented steel armor, accompanied by red and white cloth with a plumed helmet. Her iconic hair is now cropped short and curled, while her Caduceus Staff takes the shape of a spear adorned with a red and white flag.

The Overwatch League website explains the outfit’s origins and shows off some beautiful concept art by Emily Siu. Inspired by 2021’s June JoustOverwatch League Tournament, which saw the Shanghai Dragons take home the $100,000 prize, the skin celebrates Mercy’s status as a hero. As Siu explains, this medieval Mercy skin “fits well with her characteristics of helping, protecting, and being a guardian of the people.” She adds that the red and white color palette combined with the golden lion crest “symbolizes courage, nobility, royalty, strength, and valor.”

The outfit is available in-game for an entire month, from July 19 to August 19, and can be purchased for 200 League Tokens, costing $9.99 or £8.99. Alternatively, players can earn five tokens for every hour they spend watching live matches on the Overwatch League website or mobile app. With the Midseason Madness Tournament now in full swing, fans can tune in each day from July 19 to July 24 to see the future of the Overwatch League asplayers compete inOverwatch 2for the first time. As with last month’s Luchador Reaper skin, the winning team of the tournament will see a special variant of Royal Knight Mercy come to stores, also.

This is the first Mercy skin to come to the game since the underwhelming Mage Mercy recolor packaged inOverwatch’s 2022 Anniversary Remix event. Giving Mercy a fresh coat of paint in the form of a limited-time skin may be just what she needs to help return her to popularity and encourage support players to stop engaging withMoria’s overpowered new abilities.

Overwatchis currently available for Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
