A creative gamer has customized their normal-looking whitePlayStation 5into a granite stone texture reminiscent of games from the PS1 era. ThePS5itself works perfectly fine, as if it was purchased straight from the store.
It doesn’t get mentioned very often, but the plates on the side of the PS5 can come off and be replaced with official customized plates from Sony, or other third-party brands. Most players just stick with the plates that come with the system, while othersreplace the PS5 faceplateswith their own custom designs. These customized designs may just be a quick paint job, while other customizations are more elaborate, like a granite stone finish.

Reddit user realLudoKresshh has posted a slideshow of his granite stone console, and it’s so professional looking that fans may want anofficial release for their PS5. The granite finish has a great textured feel that’s reminiscent of old television static or a design from the 90s. As stated by the original poster, the exact inspiration for this design was the classic wall textures found in PlayStation 1 games, likeMetal Gear SolidandSyphon Filter.
In the slideshow, realLudoKresshh also added a picture of the spray paint he used to customize both plates. First, each plate was coated with gray primer, then spray-painted with Stone Textured Finish by Rust-Oleum. Finally, each plate was finished off with a bit of clear matte spray to protect the finish and give the PS5 a bit of a shine. To complete the old-school look, the PS5 logo was painted in theclassic Playstation 1 logo colors, red, blue, and yellow.
The general reception for the granite PS5 has been positive, with many commenters mentioning that they would buy customized faceplates just like these if they could. Even the commenters who didn’t personally like the design still said that it was an impressive feat. The logo has grabbed a lot of attention as well, proving howiconic the PS1 logo is for PlayStation fans.
Of course, the biggest question about this granite stone PS5 is how it will handle overheating. With the recent news that the boss fights inFinal Fantasy 16are overheating some PS5s, it’s only natural to wonder if the thick finish used on this customization would hinder the console’s much-needed airflow. According to realLudoKresshh, thePS5runs just fine, even when playingFinal Fantasy 16. Time will tell if any problems pop up in the future.
