Summary
Pokemongames always had a habit of trying to break to mold compared to their predecessors. Gen 5 was a soft reboot forPokemonas a whole and moved away from Japan-inspired regions, Gen 6 gave players Mega Evolutions, and Gen 7 added both regional forms and Ultra Beasts, with modern games doing something similar but still changing the overallPokemon formula- likePokemon Legends: Arceus. Although many entries in the series were both unique and ground-breaking for different reasons,Pokemon Legends: Arceusarguably remains hard to top in this sense due to how much it shook up the core gameplay loop, and that’s something sequels can keep doing with more dedicated regions, such as Alola.
With Alola being such a different place compared to every region before it, it not only can provide aPokemon Legendssequel with enough variety in terms of setting, but it can also offer interesting new inspirations for regional forms and evolutions for existing critters.Pokemon Legends: Arceusintroduced several Hisuian variants for past critters, and it also added new evolutions for some more, such as Sneasler, Basculegion, and Ursaluna, so it would only make sense for a sequel set in Alola to do something similar.

Pinsir and Heracross
While Pinsir and Heracross may seem like a weird pair, both have Pokedex entries mentioning how they have territorial disputes with Vikavolt in Alola, with Pinsir’s entry even mentioning it gets along with Heracross, specifically. Having regional forms or evolutions for either of them not only would make sense from an in-universe lore perspective, but it could also make them break the “curse” ofPokemon’s Mega Evolutionsmeaning a given line cannot evolve further if it had a Mega in Gen 6. This is never stated anywhere, but it’s been like this since. As such, Pinsir or Heracross would make for great candidates for some new form in Alola.
Elekid, Electabuzz, and Electivire
Another Pokemon whose Pokedex entries tie into Alola’s lore is Elekid, who is stated to fight with Togedemaru who want to steal its electricity. Given Togedemaru’s typing being Electric/Steel, and given that Elekid, Electabuzz, and Electivire all have muscular bodies already, a good way to reflect this would be to make a regional form that is Electric/Fighting for these three critters, making them supereffective against Togedemaru.Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Iron Handsand Pawmot both introduced Electric/Fighting as a type combination, and seeing it on other critters would be fantastic.
Rhyperior and Roggenrola
One of Rhyperior’s Pokedex entries states that it can load projectiles into its hands, launching them at its enemies, and that they could be either regular rocks or Roggenrola. Since both Rhyperior and Roggenrola can be found in Gen 7 games, havingaPokemon Legends Alolagameintroduce a regional form for Rhyperior that’s akin to Dragapult, but shooting Roggenrola instead of Dreepy, could make a lot of fans happy. Similarly, Roggenrola would also be a good candidate when it comes to regional forms, and it could have a symbiotic relationship with Rhyperior in some way.
Krookodile
Krookodile was one of the most popular critters when Gen 5 launched, and this mon could very well thrive in Alola as much as it did in Unova. An Alolan Krookodile in aPokemon Legends: Arceussequelcould give up its Dark type and gain Water, instead, becoming a saltwater crocodile in the process, still camouflaging itself with beach sand. Alternatively, it could give up Ground for Water, retaining Dark. Either way, a new regional form for Krookodile would become an instant fan-favorite, and given the Pokemon’s presence in modern-day Alola, it wouldn’t be a stretch to include it in aPokemon Legendsgame.
Pokemon Legends: Arceusis available for Nintendo Switch.
