Nintendo and Game Freak released the firstPokemontitles way back in 1996, and since then, fans have grown older, but many have maintained their favorite Pokemon out of the original 151 in the lineup. OnePokemonfan recently shared a video detailing the process of making a Charmander rug.
Reddit user Rugsbyohm is fresh to the platform with an account that dates back only two days, but they’ve already garnered the attention of thePokemoncommunity with their Charmander rug. Charmander has long been a favorite Pokemon of some players since being a starter inPokemon Red and Blue, and laterFireRed and LeafGreenon the Game Boy Advance in 2004. Rugsbyohm may be showing their fondness for the Fire-type Pokemon, given that their first Nintendo-related rug revolves around the fire lizard.

Rugsbyohm’s clip begins with the rug maker having already started Charmander’s eyes, mouth, and nostrils, with the board being used to hold the rug facing the camera so that every change would be picked up. ThePokemonfan quickly proceeds to outline the rest of Charmander in a time-lapse, starting with the head and arms before forming one leg, the tail, and finishing with the other leg. Before getting into the primary colors used to fill in theCharmanderrug, Rugsbyohm uses white to highlight its claws and combines white with blue in the eyes to reflect the Pokemon’s character.
Charmander’s fiery tail receives the closeup treatment as Rugsbyohm fills it in with yellow and orange after coloring the Pokemon’s belly and adding detail to other spots. The focus on Charmander’s tail flame shows the rug fabric poking through, with some orange strings drooping a few inches lower than where it was inserted. The rest of Charmander is tufted with a different darker shade of orange, and upon finishing with this color, the full Charmander rug is complete in all of itsPokemonGen 1glory.
Although Rugsbyohm’s Charmander rug is relatively fresh, many fans of theFire-type starter Pokemonexpressed their enthusiasm for Rugsbyohm’s choice of Pokemon. OnePokemonfan noted the satisfaction of watching the outline of Charmander being filled in, while another pointed out a super saver label in the video, which suggests that it was made on a budget. It’s currently unclear if Rugsbyohm intends to create more rugs in the future or if they will sell one to anyPokemonfans, however, the energy that the clip has garnered on Reddit may inspire them to share whatever’s next.
