Back in mid-2010s, Capcom’s premiere survival horror franchise was at a bit of a low point, as the last few entries in the series had failed to win fans over and had received mixed scores. When 2017 rolled around,Resident Evil 7was heralded as the franchise’s return to its horror-based roots, providing players with a first-person viewpoint as opposed to a third-person action game likeResident Evil 6orRevelations 2. The game was also praised for how well-paced and detailed each scare was, with the antagonistic Baker family being the game’s highlight.

Resident Evil 7’s Baker Familyare an antagonistic force that oppose Ethan Winters, who has come to the estate looking for his wife Mia. This family consists of Jack, cannibalistic serial killer, his wife Marguerite who can control insects, the mentally unstable Lucas, and more. There’s even an old wheelchair-bound grandma character who randomly appears throughout the game, and without going into spoilers, she is integral to the game’s plot. When recently playing through the game, one fan stumbled upon a terrifying place where she can appear.

This grandma is first seen sitting beside Ethan when he wakes up at the dinner table, though just as quickly disappears after Ethan tries to escape. As Ethan explores the mansion, this old grandma will follow him around, showing up out of nowhere and likely giving the player a jump scare. As the player explores, they can actually backtrack to early areas inResident Evil 7, such as a crawlspace between the hatch and laundry room.

This can be found once the player completes the clock and bed puzzle. This is before the encounter with Lucas, which is rather early in the game. If a player gets close enough to the grandma, they can see that her eyes will follow the player around, and even more creepily, she doesn’t move her head at all. This is definitelyone of the ways thatResident Evil 7manages to stay scaryhalf a decade after it made its debut.

Many fans even noted they didn’t find this untilrevisitingResident Evil 7in their completionist playthroughs, while one stated that they were scared immediately when they did it in their first playthrough. Fans also discussed other details that usually go unnoticed, such as Ethan being able to get his foot cut off in an optional trapdoor encounter with Jack Baker.

Resident Evil 7is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
