DC fans campaigned for years for Warner Bros. to “#ReleaseTheSnyderCut” before it was confirmed thatZack Snyder’s Justice Leaguewas being released. While many would have assumed that the campaigning would stop with the Snyder Cut coming to fruition, fans are not backing down. Their latest demand is for the studio to restore Snyder’s version of the DC universe.

Zack Snyder’s Justice Leaguereleases on HBO Max in a week, but fans aren’t even waiting to watch it before asking the production studio to “#RestoreTheSnyderVerse.” The hashtag was trending on Twitter on Thursday, March 11, with fans sharing their requests along with memes, GIFs, and images created fromtheJustice Leaguetrailer.

The trend appeared shortly after it was confirmed that actress Kiersey Clemons was officially returning as Iris West inEzra Miller’sThe Flashmovie. Clemons was cast to play Barry Allen’s love interest in Snyder’s original cut ofJustice League. However, her role was later cut from Joss Whedon’s theatrical edition of the film. It was confirmed that her scenes have been added back to the upcoming Snyder Cut, and she also appears in the film’s trailer.

This isn’t the first time that fans have made this specific demand online. Over the years, similar hashtags have emerged on social media, with #RestoreTheSnyderVerse trending on Twitter in December 2020 as well. The trends always have fans imploring DC to let Snyder complete his vision for the so-called SnyderVerse.Unlike the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the DC Extended Universehas faced a chaotic fate since its inception. With 2013’sMan of Steel, the initial phase of the universe was introduced by Snyder. It was initially meant to launch a five-movie plan, with the second filmBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justicereleasing in 2016.Suicide Squadwas the first spin-off film in the universe, which introduced fans to Joker and Harley Quinn in 2016.

However, after introducing Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman to the world,Snyder’s journey with the DCEU endedabruptly after facing a personal tragedy during the production ofJustice League.Since then, the DCEU went in a different direction, one that was unlike Snyder’s vision. WhileSuicide Squadcast Jared Leto as Joker, who was also meant to appear in Snyder’s version ofJustice League, the 2019 filmJokerstarred Joaquin Phoenix. Ben Affleck decided to step away andRobert Pattinson took over as a new versionof Caped Crusader. While Aquaman and Shazam got their standalone films, Flash and Cyborg, both a part of the 2017 theatrical cut ofJustice League, were turned into supporting cast members.

Now thatZack Snyder’s Justice Leagueis releasing, fans want all these wrongs to be righted and to be given a chance to experience Snyder’s vision for the DC Universe. Unfortunately, there is little hope at the moment for their demands to be heard. Snyder, in past interviews, has revealed that Warner Bros. hasno interest in aJustice Leaguesequel. Even though the upcoming Snyder Cut promises to end with a cliffhanger, this might just be the end of the line for the SnyderVerse.
