As expected, Gamescom’s Opening Night Live event has been heavy with big announcements andnew looks at such titles asCall of Duty: Black Ops Cold WarandDragon Age 4, but the exciting previews actually started before the show did, as Bandai Namco released a new trailer for its upcoming cross-gen action-RPGScarlet Nexusduring the ONL pre-show.
It’s been a few months sinceScarlet Nexuswas revealed at the Inside Xbox presentationearlier this summer. Bandai Namco has provided a few brief glimpses of the game since then, but today’s new trailer offers the best look yet at the different psychic-based abilities players will be able to wield against the otherworldly threats known simply as the Others.

Bandai Namco also provided a new official description forScarlet Nexus’ story: “In the far distant future, a psionic hormone has been discovered in the human brain, granting people extra-sensory powers, and changing the world as we know it. As humanity enters this new era, deranged mutants known as Others begin to descend from the sky with a hunger for human brains. Impervious to conventional weapons, those with acute extra-sensory abilities, known as psychics, are our only chance to fight the onslaught from above and preserve humanity. Since that fateful day, psychics have been scouted for their talents and recruited to the Other Suppression Force, humanity’s last line of defense.”
The new trailer shows off more of the game’s protagonist, OSF recruit Yuito Sumeragi, as well as a few new OSF members, who Bandai Namco said are named Hanabi, Nagi, Fubuki, and Kasane. The real meat of the Gamescom trailer, though, is the new glimpses atScarlet Nexus' gameplayand the abilities players can wield in combat, which include being able to hurl a barrage of psychic blades and create doppelgangers to land more attacks. Yuito can also be seen at the end of the trailer entering a powered-up state in what appears to be an otherworldly plane.
While it remains to be seen howScarlet Nexuswill play exactly, the trailer makes it clear that combat will be fast and stylish. It’s looking pretty good so far, and will no doubt be a welcome change of pace for players who thought that Bandai Namco’s other anime action-RPG, the Souls-likeCode Vein, was a little too slow.
Unfortunately, the game still doesn’t have a release window, but Bandai Namco reconfirmed thatScarlet Nexuswill be available on next-gen consoles as well as current-gen, and thatincludes the PlayStation 5.
Scarlet Nexusis in development for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
