WhenSonic Frontiers' formal reveal at the Game Awards gave fans a look at the world of the game in-engine, what shocked fans the most was the fact that it was made rather clear that the nextSonictitle would be open world. Sega has now shared that this experimental new entry also has the length to match its lofty ambitions.
The time fans spend with the most recentSonictitles hasn’t really been anything to write home about for the last few years. Fan-favorite games such asSonic GenerationsandSonic Colorscould easily be beaten in a day if fans were dedicated enough.Sonic 06currently sits as the longest game for the blue blur to date, despite its bad reputation, butSonic Frontiersaims to change that.

While talking to IGN,Sonic Frontiers' director Morio Kishimoto made it a point to mention just how long the game will take players. Sonic’s latest adventure will take around 20-30 hours to finish for regular players while that length will be double that for those that want to complete it and see everything it has to offer.
WithFrontierstouting that many hours behind it, this means that the nextSonicgame will end up being one of the longest in the series. Fan-favoriteSonic Unleashedranged around 13 hours with plenty of padding,whileSonic 06sat at 16 hours. With the non-linear structure ofFrontiersas well, this means many of the game’s players will experience that playtime far differently as they explore the way they desire to.
Kishimoto’s statements may also ease players when it comes to what locations fans canexpect to see inFrontiers. While only one part of the Starfall Islands has been seen in previews and gameplay so far, the game’s website states that the islands are home to “sizzling deserts and more.“Frontiers’length only seems to confirm even further that the Starfall Islands have much more to them than currently shown.
The length ofSonic Frontiersmay change as Sonic Team wraps up development on the game, and it may even differ from player to player asSonic’s speed is customizable. While some fans are concerned about how the game will handle its pacing, it sounds likeSonicfans have a full-fledged adventure to go on whenFrontierslaunches this holiday season.
