Over the years there have been many attempts to bring the worlds of otherElder Scrollsgames intoSkyrim, like the well-known Skyblivion and Skywind projects. Earlier games in the series barely get any attention anymore, mostly due to their age, but one mod seeks to reinvigorate the fanbase forDaggerfallby bringing it faithfully into theSkyrimengine.

Theaptly-named addon Skygerfalldoes exactly this, preserving the old-school dungeon-crawling feel ofDaggerfallinSkyrim’s 3D environment.Daggerfallis infamously a massive game, comparable to real-life countries, but Skygerfall only adds the main questline. It’s fun for older fans of the series, but it’s also worth checking out ifDaggerfall’sold-school mechanicsaren’t for you.
Incompatible Mods And Prerequisites
Skygerfall is an overhaul that doesn’t clashwith a lot of other addons, though there are some that it flat-out doesn’t work with.Any mod that modifies the “Unbound” quest(MQ101) won’t work alongside Skygerfall, andbody and armor replacement mods generally don’t workeither. The mod creator also recommends that playersavoid using Followers in Skygerfall areasas the world meshes aren’t properly developed for their AI.

There are a few pre-requisite addons players must have installed (and placed higher in their load order) before installing Skygerfall. TheUnofficial Skyrim Patch fixes a lot of things in the game that apply to Skygerfall.SKSE64is a script extender that allows Slowfall and Jumping spells to function correctly, though if you don’t plan to use these spells SKSE64 is not required. Skygerfall also offers special compatibility patches on its main download pagefor the Alternate Startand Realm of Lorkhan mods that change the beginning of the game.
How To Install Skygerfall
Skygerfall works on bothnormalSkyrimandSkyrim Special Edition, so be sure todownload the correct files for your game version. Installation of addons can be done manually, but it’s best to use some kind of Mod Manager to organize addons and alter load orders when needed. TheNexus VortexandWrye Bashare both popular options.
For the Nexus Vortex, download the Skygerfall file from the Nexus through Vortex, locate yourSkyrimdirectory in the app, and ensure you install it in the mod manager - there should be a little indication when it’s ready to go. For Wrye Bash, download the file independently, locate the ZIP with the app, and ensure to activate the .esm/.esp files. For both methods, ensure that the Skygerfall files load after the Unofficial Skyrim Patch andother prerequisite mods.
