There are many reasons whyThe Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrimis still as popular as ever, despite it coming out in 2011. FromSkyrimbeing one of the most immersive open world gamesin recent history to its in-depth lore, visuals that still hold up to this day, and its meme-worthy content, Bethesda’s epic RPG has continued to stay in the limelight for all these years. Having said that, it’s not a perfect game by any stretch. Aside from bugs-a-plenty, there are numerous ways that it could be improved upon to make it more immersive.

A user by the name of CHIMgarden has decided that the dialogues inSkyrimneed some variation. Not so much in the voice lines themselves, but more in the way that NPCs gesticulate when talking to the player. As a result, “Dialogue Animation Remix,” or DAR, adds more than 30 gesture animations, meaning that characters will move their arms in a more realistic fashion while talking, depending on context as well as their personality. The add-on is said to incorporate a much more dynamic form of animation when it comes to talking to the world’s many dwellers.

An accompanying series of videos show the mod in action, and it really does breathe a lot more life into the dialogue sections of the game as characters use gestures when they speak. According to the description page, it should be possible to install DAR alongside other NPC-based custom mods. So adding this to theSkyrimmod that implements 500 lines of new dialoguecould prove to make the game that much more immersive and varied, if they are compatible with each other.

There isso much dialogue withinSkyrim, but it’s fair to say that it was missing something up until this point, as characters tend to just stand still during conversations. The option to have them more animated during these moments injects an air of realism, or at least as much realism as can be imagined in a fantasy game about talking dragons.

Given the length of time the game has been out, it’s not surprising that there are so many different mods that either improve on the vanilla format or just add a lot more content. With Bethesda wantingThe Elder Scrolls 6to have as big a shelf life asSkyrim, it will be interesting to see, at some point in the distant future, whether fans will be just as dedicated to the next installment in the series as they are to this one.
