Coming out of Gamescom Opening Night Live, it’s clear that October and November are going to be absolutely packed with big games. It’s always a busy time of year, but fans are going to have limited wiggle room between releases. One of the games confirmed for November atGamescom ONLwasSonic Frontiers.
A newSonic Frontierstrailer debuted at Gamescom, showing a little more of its gameplay and an interesting character cameo, but many haven’t been impressed with it so far. Gamescom didn’t do much to change that. The only real thing it confirmed wasSonic Frontiers' release date of November 8, which is not a good pick. It feels like Sega may be sendingSonicout just to be overshadowed.

Sonic Frontiers, Skull and Bones vs. The Most Anticipated Game of the Fall
It’s not necessarily uncommon for games to release close together or even on the same day. In fact, it seems one reasonGotham Knights moved its release dateup four days is to distance itself from October 28, when twoResident Evilprojects,Bayonetta 3, andModern Warfare 2all drop. That week gives fans more time withGotham Knightsbefore they move on, and that could be good for the title.Sonic Frontiersdoes not have this same benefit.
Sonic Frontiersshares its release date withSkull and Bones, which isn’t necessarily a bad pairing. Fans will likely play one or the other, depending on their personal taste. ButSkull and Bonesalready ran the risk of being overshadowed on the following day, November 9, andSonicnow shares that fate. Exactly one day afterSonic FrontiersandSkull and Bonesrelease isGod of War Ragnarok’s release date. There are several hotly-anticipated titles for the fall, butGod of War Ragnarokis up there as one of the biggest games of the fall. It’s arguably the game that needs the most space, as many will flock to it and ignore everything else coming out.
Sure, there are those who will play both games or all three, but many will prioritizeGod of War Ragnarokover just about anything.Sonichas its fanbase, and a multiplayer pirate game may appeal to some gamers thatGod of Wardoesn’t.SonicandSkull and Bonesare on multiple platforms, at the very least, butGod of War Ragnarokwill absolutely dominate PS4 and PS5 for some time after its release. Going up against that would be hard for anything, and it’s unfortunate forSonic Frontiersat the end of the day.
Sonic Frontierswill release on November 8 for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
