Sonic the Hedgehogis one of the most popular gaming franchises in the world and a lot of new titles are releasing this year.While many fans have enjoyed theSonic the Hedgehog 2moviethat came out on April 8, there are many otherSonicreleases to look forward to this year, such asSonic Origins, a compilation game consisting of some of the most iconic installments in the series.
Sonic Originsis a compilation of the originalSonic the Hedgehoggame,Sonic the Hedgehog 2,Sonic the Hedgehog 3,Sonic and Knuckles, andSonic the Hedgehog CD. The box art for the game was leaked on Twitter earlier today.

In the box art forSonic Origins, fans can see the main trio of heroes, Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles, with Metal Sonic, Amy, and Eggman, also known asDr. Robotnik, behind them. The logo forSonic Originsis shown on the left side of the image, next to the characters.
Sonic Originswas announced on June 03, 2025 during Sonic Central, a 12-minute video that showed off many upcoming titles for the franchise, as well ascollaborations with other games, merch, and news aboutSonic the Hedgehoggames that had already released.Sonic Originsreceived a teaser trailer that showed off the five retro games, making some fans very excited to play them again. Since the initial announcement, however, there hasn’t been news about the compilation, so fans that have been looking forward to it have been excited to see the leaked box art.
While the teaser trailer didn’t specify which consolesSonic Originswould be available on, it did say that the compilation would come out “on the latest platforms” and that content that wasn’t in the original versions of the game would also be added.
BesidesSonic Origins, fans have a lot of other titles to look forward to in 2022. A sequel for theSonic the Hedgehog 2film, as well as a spin-off series focusing on Knuckles, have recently been announced. A Netflix series that isn’t connected to the live-actions installments,Sonic Prime, is coming out this year,along withSonic Frontiers, an open-world platformer that will be available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, and is expected to release at the end of 2022. Fans will hopefully enjoy all of these new titles as much as the games that made the franchise popular in the first place when they revisit them inSonic Origins, or play them for the first time.
