Summary
A live-actionSpider-Manmovie with Miles Morales is reportedly in development at Sony, granting fans a long-requested wish.
The originalSpider-Manhas had several appearances in live-action projects, most notably being portrayed by three different actors in three different franchises since the early 2000s, with Tobey Maguire’sSpider-Mantrilogy aging surprisingly well since the 2000s and Andrew Garfield’s portrayal receiving a lot of appreciation in recent times. The last film inTom Holland’sSpider-Mantrilogysaw all three versions on the big screen together in a triumphant box office win for the character.

While there are plans to continue with Holland’s take, hisSpider-Man 4is seemingly set to take longerthan fans want. However, a recent rumor suggests that there might be another project in the works featuring a different fan-favorite version of the character. According to reliable sourceDaniel Richtman, a live-action Spider-Man film centered on the Miles Morales version of the character is finally in the works at Sony, making good on the news given by producers Amy Pascal and Avi Arad in May, where the pair also revealed that aSpider-Womanproject was on the drawing board.
This is news that fans have been waiting for since the character’s introduction in 2011, with interest in a live-action adaptation featuring Miles Morales growing with his increasing prominence in the Marvel Comics universe. While the character has never been seen in live action, Miles has made his way into the public consciousness via the animatedSpider-Versefilm franchise that revolves around the hero and has been met with massive success, with its most recent entrySpider-Man: Across the Spider-Verseset to debut on Netflixfor audiences at home to enjoy. Miles has also appeared in the InsomniacSpider-Mangame series, where he features heavily, and even has his own standalone installment titledSpider-Man: Miles Morales.
Unfortunately, fans have a long wait ahead of them before the live-action Miles Morales movie kicks off, partly due to the still-ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, and the threequel filmBeyond the Spider-Verseis also still far from release. However, theSpider-Verse short film recently received an official synopsis, and it might be released for general audiences soon, meaning it could be what fans need to tide them over while the other Spidey-focused content remains in development.
TheSpider-Manfranchise is mostly currently available for streaming on Netflix, withAcross the Spider-Versehitting the platform on October 31.
