AsFinal Fantasy 14celebrates the tenth anniversary of its rebirth, Square Enix announced that a new tabletop RPG (TTRPG) set based in the world of Eorzea is in the works. The upcomingFinal Fantasy 14Tabletop RPGwill be the first officially licensed TTRPG released by Square Enix and will feature books, character sheets, dice, and other tabletop supplies to get players started.
This new announcement is just the latest to commemorate the relaunch ofFinal Fantasy 14asA Realm Rebornin 2013. Between aspecial quest that takes place duringFinal Fantasy 14’s annual Rising eventin-game, and the upcoming release of Patch 6.5, Growing Light, the development team forFinal Fantasy 14has not stopped finding ways to keep players engaged until the launch of theDawntrailexpansion. However, the announcement of a new product is one way to catch the attention of fans, including one that will be a first for theFinal Fantasyseries.

According to Square Enix, theFinal Fantasy 14 Tabletop RPGwill be released in May 2024. Preorders are now available on the Square Enix Store, starting at $59.99. The box art for theFinal Fantasy 14 Tabletop RPGfeatured several races from the critically acclaimed MMORPG, with a pair of Roegadyn and a Hyur Midlander featured front and center. Characters from other races such as the Lalafell and Miqo’te were shown throughout the artwork as well. TheFinal Fantasy 14 TTRPG Starter Setwill include 16 dice (6d20 and 10d6), premade character sheets based onJobs such as the Warrior and the Black Mage, an encounter map, and some markers and books for players and game masters to use during the course of the game.
Square Enix stated that theFinal Fantasy 14 TTRPG Starter Setis intended for three to five players, and recommended a set of five players. In addition to the starter set, a rule book and a game master guide will be available for purchase at a later date. At the time of writing, it is not clear if theFinal Fantasy 14 Tabletop RPGwill use proprietary rules, or if it will borrow fromestablished rule sets such as Pathfinderor an edition ofDungeons and Dragons.
Given the commercial success ofDungeons and Dragons, as well as games such asBaldur’s Gate 3and the web seriesCritical Role,the tabletop RPG genre is showing no signs of slowing down. Only time will tell if theFinal Fantasy 14 Tabletop RPGwill catch on withfans of both theFinal Fantasyseries and tabletop RPGs.
Final Fantasy 14is available now for PC, PS4, and PS5, with an Xbox Series X/S version launching in Spring 2024.
