Whenever someone talks ofStar Warsoutside the context of the Force, it’s easy to remember memorable characters such as Han Solo and Chewbacca - perhaps the best dynamic duo in the entire franchise, save for Artoo and Threepio. However, with regards specifically to Chewbacca, some fans might find it easy to forget that Chewbacca isn’t the only popular Wookie in the entire franchise.

Much to the surprise of franchise fans, one only needs to look at the right places and at the right stories to see that other Wookies also made a mark in galactic history throughout the course ofStar Warsmedia. And while Chewie became a pilot, other Wookies specialized in other forms of trade.
9Rorworr
Despite the abundance of planets and worlds in theStar Warsuniverse, not everyone sees the sheer death of some of its planets due to global warming and other environmental threats. Such became the calling ofRorworr, as he’s eventually known as an adventurer and explorer that continuously fought for the protection of various wilderness planets and their respective native species.
But before his life of independent adventuring, Rorworr used to live on Naboo with his ambassador father and became a student at the Royal House of Learning. Already thirsty for adventure at such a young age, Rorworr made himself known to the Jedi community by helping Jedi Rann I-Kanu defeat veermok smugglers. Rorworr saw himself helpingin the Naboo defense during the Trade Federation invasionand even became a pilot and agent of the Galactic Rebellion - having served in reconnaissance missions. He’s known for interceptor High Inquisitor Volytar during the Battle of Skorrupon, upon which he became recognized as a hero.

8Quagga
Not all Wookies have a skill for warfare and combat. In fact, some Wookies end up becoming extremely skilled in crafts - likeQuaggaand his knowledge in engineering. Formerly a slave to an Imperial engineer, his owner eventually earned enough to buy Quagga his freedom and the Wookie managed to create his own repair shop in Tatooine.
Unlike other Wookies, Quagga’s story is that of business and enterprise, as the Jawas in Tatooine often saw him as fierce competition. At some point, business got so low that Quagga enteredJabba the Hutt’s demolition contestswith a remodeled AAT. The outcome of his adventures is unknown, though, as some say Quagga remains a slave to Jabba while others said he’s managed to earn his way to freedom to operate in Tatooine.

7Tarrful
When the Great Jedi Purge almost annihilated all the known Jedi in the Prequel Era, fans finally knew how Jedi Master Yoda survived the horrific event. And while the Jedi Master had more than enough skill to protect himself, it’s also through the likes ofTarrfulthat Yoda managed to repel much of the invading clones that tried to kill the Jedi Master.

Known as a Wookie Chieftain, Tarrful was close friends with Chewbacca and is also known for his skill in battle. While not possessing the rank of general, Tarrful wasskillful enough to have been able to plot the placement of warriors and troopsalongside Jedi Masters Quinlan Vos and Luminara Unduli in the Battle of Kashyyyk during the Clone Wars.
6Zaalbar
Outside Chewbacca, it’s perhapsZaalbarthat became gaming’s most iconic Wookie, courtesy of his appearance in the acclaimedKnights of the Old Republicvideo game, where he served primarily as themeek guardian of the more talkative Mission Vao. Unlike other Wookiees that tend to be boisterous and loud, Zaalbar was relatively shy, and even rarely of his culture - which he considered private.
However, players immediately add Zaalbar to their list of favorite Wookies after seeing his sheer level of loyalty and dedication to both Mission and the players during their quest. He boasts quite the strength and constitution, something he’s proud of as a Wookie. Most notably, players will soon learn that Zaalbar’s lineage is that of a chieftain’s son - something they will explore once they return to Kashyyyk.

5Bowdaar
However, the list of Wookie companions of player characters doesn’t just end with Zaalbar.Bowdaar the Deathmountainis also quite the recognizable Wookie warrior, particularly for his exploitsin the MMOThe Old Republic.In his biography, it’s said that Bowdaar was trained and skilled enough to survive more than 10,000 matches against the likes of gundarks, rancors, Mandalorians, and even Jedi. Perhaps more impressive is that Bowdaar managed to defeat them without using any weapons. This was perhaps what attracted the attention of Drooga the Hutt, who had Bowdaar as his personal “pet” gladiator.
Through the player’s efforts, Bowdaar would eventually find freedom and end up joining the player - now a smuggler captain by that point - in his adventures.

4Black Krrsantan
First appearing in live-action inThe Book of Boba Fett,Black Krrsantanactually existed way back in the comics, establishing himself as a fierce gladiator that soon became a hired mercenary,much like the famed Boba Fett. Black Krrsantan is known for his iconic black fur, and particularly for his cunning and skill, courtesy of his tutelage under the infamous Xonti Brothers as a gladiator.

As a bounty hunter, Black Krrsantan usually finds himself employed by Jabba the Hutt, as well as Jabba’s cousin the Twins after his death. Such was Black Krrsantan’s skill that his services were also sought by the likes of Darth Vader himself during the Galactic Civil War, during his hunt for Cylo, who served the Emperor as one of his spies.
3Tyvokka
Jedi MasterTyvokkawas by far one of the most acclaimed Jedi Masters during the Republic Classic era. And while the Expanded Universe has been made non-canon by the Disney-verse series of films and media, Tyvokka was a name that continues to reverberate across the fandom. Known best for training Kel Dor Plo Koon, Tyvokka is known best for hisuncanny ability to sense the future- a Jedi ability not everyone is able to master.
Much was his power of insight that he’s been chosen to help broker the peace between the Stark Commercial Combine and the Trade Federation. He’s even accompanied the likes of Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Mace Windu in various missions, and have equally earned their praise.

2Gungi
Of all Wookies in theStar Warsuniverse,Gungimay well earn the pride of the rest of his kind as one of the very few who became a Jedi. Appearing first as a Force-sensitive Wookie, Gungi eventually became one of the top Younglings of his class. He became distinguished enough for Jedi Master Yoda to include him among the others to visit the Crystal Cave to retrieve their kyber crystals, which could then be used to create their first lightsabers.
Gungi is known for his patience, especially whenhis kyber crystalwas seen on an island across freezing waters. And when advised that the freezing water was dangerous, Gungi meditated and waited for the waters to freeze before safely retrieving his crystal. Other feats include escaping a band of pirates while saving a captive Ashoka Tano, and even escaping a rampaging General Grievous, a well-known lightsaber user.

1Lowbacca
Perhaps the most famous Wookie Jedi inStar Wars,Lowbaccais best known for being Chewbacca’s cousin and being a respectable Jedi Warrior through his training. Fans were first introduced to Lowbacca around the time Jaina and Jacen Solo - the children of Han and Leia - began their adventures. Serving as the analog of Chewbacca in this “next generation” of explorers, Lowbacca eventually found his way inLuke Skywalker’s Jedi Academyas a Force-sensitive in training. Eventually, Lowbacca becomes a Jedi Knight.
Like his Uncle Chewie, Lowie is just as fierce as the renowned character. Lowbacca took part in various conflicts, most notable against the relatively unknown Yuuzan Vong from beyond the galaxy. Moreover, Lowbacca also worked with other Jedi Knights to foil the plots of various criminal organizations from profiting out of the near-apocalyptic Yuuzan Vong War.
