During Nintendo Direct, the newestStar Warsgame was announced by Lucasfilm Games and developer Zynga, calledStar Wars: Hunters.The game is described as a free-to-play competitive multiplayer game that will be released for the Nintendo Switch later this year. It will not require a Nintendo Switch Online membership to download and play online. Coinciding with the recent announcement was a teaser trailer forStar Wars: Huntersand a brief description details what type of game it will be.

According to the Star Wars Blog,Star Wars: Hunterswill be a competitive arena combat game that has pits players against one another. The game will feature brand newStar Warscharacters and locations for them to fight in.
The game takes place after the fall of the Galactic Empire, and while the teaser trailer doesn’t reveal too much, it does show off a holographic lineup of the new characters in the game. The first is a lightsaber-wielding female warrior resembling a Nightsister, a stormtrooper with a minigun-like weapon, a Mandalorian bounty hunter, and a dual mace-wielding Wookie warrior.
Lucasfilm Games' VP, Douglas Reilly, said that the game will draw inspiration from previousStar Warsstories and locations while providing something that’s distinguished from past games. “Star Wars:Huntersdraws inspiration fromclassicStar Warsstoriesand settings, but with a look and feel that is different from anything we have done before.” He voiced his excitement to bring this new game toStar Warsfans on the Nintendo Switch and can’t wait to show players more of its “wildly creative cast of characters.”
The game is multiplayer, but it’s unclear if it will have a story or significant connection toStar Wars' current continuity. The game could introduce new characters that crossover into some of the films, comics, and TV shows. It’s also possible that they only show up in the game, never to be seen again.Lucasfilm Games still has more announcementsto make, so players should keep an eye out for more news.
