IfStar Wars: The Old Republicis known for anything besides its excellent storytelling, it would be its fantastic cinematic trailers.The Old Republicjust released the sixth installment of its cinematic trailers in the form of “Disorder”–a companion story to its newest expansion,Legacy of the Sith.

The Old Republiclaunched alongside three cinematics setting up the Jedi and the Galactic Republic, its struggle against the Sith Empire, and introducing several important characters. Two more cinematics came out later, exploring thebackstory ofSWTOR’sFallen Empire storyline. “Disorder” follows suit, setting the stage for the drama of its newest expansion.

This cinematic introduces Sa’har, a Jedi padawan and her master, Orr. It explores her backstory briefly before diving into the action: a confrontation with a Sith warrior who seeks an ancient machine of unknown origin. Midway through,SWTORposter boy Darth Malgus appearsto fight the Jedi–all while trying to turn Sa’har against her master by shedding light on the true colors of the Jedi and Sith. Armed with the seeds of doubt, he emerges victorious, leaving young Sa’har questioning everything she ever knew.

Thekey art forThe Old Republic: Legacy of the Sithfeatured many characters; most were recognizable, and those who weren’t had been introduced in subsequent previews. However, a lightsaber-wielding twi’lek woman was front and center of the art, and when asked about her,SWTORsimply said she was a new character who would play an important role in the expansion pack. From her appearance and color of her lightsaber, it is safe to say this mysterious character is Sa’har, and that her journey, struggle, and dynamic with Darth Malgus will be important toLegacy of the Sith.

“Disorder” has stirred up tons of hype for the newThe Old Republicexpansion, receiving over 60,000 views in just a couple of hours. With six years since “Betrayed,” its last cinematic, many wondered ifThe Old Republicwould release another, especially sinceSWTORjust re-released all of its previous trailers in 4k. With “Disorder,”The Old Republichas once again delivered a grippingStar Warsstory in just a few minutes of animation, thanks to the team of Industrial Light & Magic.

However, an awesome cinematic alone does not make a good MMORPG expansion.Legacy of the Sithintroduces tons of new content and systems toSWTOR, but has already hit a few bumps.Legacy of the Sithwas delayed for two monthspastSWTOR’s10 years anniversary, and the maintenance for the expansion patch has been extended beyond its original time, meaning the game may not be playable until the day after its February 15th launch. The venerable MMO has promised at least a full year of content for its anniversary celebration andLegacy of the Sith, and fans ofThe Old Republichope BioWare can deliver on its promises despite its hardships.
