A new mod forStarfieldallows players to craft their own ammunition, a feature that was strangely omitted from the RPG’s otherwise deep crafting system. Bethesda’s latest RPG,Starfield,launched in September 2023 to solid reception, with the game’s ship and outpost building features serving as the main source of creativity for clever fans over the months since release.
Like any other major Bethesda Game Studios RPG before it,Starfield’s modding community on PC is massive. Since launch, the game has seen an amalgamation of helpful and interesting mods come to the game, fromaddingHalo’s Master Chief armor, to givingStarfield’s city dwellers more unique clothing and apparel. One PC mod, known as The Royal Galaxy, even goes as far as to make galaxy-spanning adjustments to the game’s economy, perks, weather, enemy spawns, and more. Many otherStarfieldmods seek to smooth out some of the inconveniences the base game launched with, like making the Temple puzzles less tedious and adding a planet resource database to players' cockpits.
OneStarfieldmodder has come up with a solution to another of the game’s smaller shortcomings, ammo crafting. On Nexus Mods,Novakiin Mods put out Shell Shocked, a mod which allows players to craft many of the game’s “vanilla” ammo types. Once installed, players must useStarfield’s Industrial Workbenchto find the ammo recipes, but will also need to have the corresponding weapon skills unlocked, as well as the Special Projects skill to be able to craft the ammo using some of the game’s more basic resources.
Shell Shocked Mod Lets Starfield Players Craft Ammo
Novakiin mentions lasers, ballistics, particle beams, rifles, and pistols as the types of weapons players will be able to craft ammo for with the Shell Shocked mod. Most types ofammunition can be quite abundant inStarfieldfor players who like to explore every nook and cranny, and players can end their playthrough with loads of ammo left in their pockets. With that said, the Shell Shocked mod could prove useful for players who attempt speedruns or who are on subsequent runs that don’t want to spend time exploring areas they’ve been to before. The mod can also come in handy for players who like to wield weapons that use rarer types of ammo.
Novakiin Mods mentioned that they eventually want to create their own custom resources to be able to use in crafting. WithStarfield’s Shattered Space DLCon the way, it’ll be interesting to find out whether it’ll bring any new official resources to the game, though that may require adding new planets, which doesn’t seem likely considering the game already sports 1,000 moons and planets to explore. In the meantime,Starfieldmodders are still waiting on Bethesda to release official mod support in Creations, which is due out sometime this year.
