Steam has become famous for its massive discounts. Many of those discounts occur during heavily promoted sales periods, like its popular winter sale that always lands just in time for the holiday shopping season. But occasionally, Steam and the developers selling games on its digital storefrontwill randomly drop a price cut or give away a gamefor free outside of Steam’s normal seasonal sales. The sales during these times can be just as good if not better than the big, highly discussed seasonal sales.

The game on sale today through June 15 is the beloved2018 PlayStation hitGod of War. One of the crown jewels of Sony’s first-party game offerings, theGod of Warseries began as a release for the PlayStation 2 back in 2005 and was followed by several sequels. The series took a new direction with 2018’sGod of War.It was a fresh take that paired an older Kratos with his son Atreus as they battled with the heroes and villains of Norse mythology. An excellentGod of WarPC port was released in January 2022.
God of Warreceived several Game of the Year awardsand accolades from various publications, including IGN, the D.I.C.E. Awards, Empire Magazine, and Game Informer, among many others. It has been tagged as a Metacritic “Must Play,” receiving an overall critic’s score of 94 and a user score of 9.1. Out of 71,634 reviews at the time of publication, it is labeled as having “Overwhelmingly Positive Reviews” on Steam, where it is currently discounted.
The 40-percent discount, which drops the game down to $29.99, matchesGod of War’s all-time lowest Steam discount, according to Steam data tracker SteamDB.God of Warhas been discounted on Steam seven times, only three of which were as low as today’s sale. But gamers itching to grabone of the best games on Steamshould do it soon, as the 40% off sale on 2018’sGod of Warends on June 15.
