AlthoughThe Last of Us Part 2does feature infected in various shapes and sizes, this particular incident doesn’t appear to be part of the intended experience.
Over the years, there have been some strange glitches appearing inThe Last of Usseries across both titles. While Naughty Dog’s games are certainly known for being massively polished, something will always slip through the cracks, and the results can actually be hilarious. Oneglitch forThe Last of Uson PC turned Bill’s home into a rave, for example. For some players, this could definitely pull them out of the experience, but there’s an undeniably humorous element to it, too.

The strange glitch was noticed by Redditor BossHemisphere, who posted a clip of it online. It begins with the player shooting the hands off of an enemy corpse. However, they then shoot the arms once again, and another pair of hands appear out of nowhere, seemingly duplicating. It’s extremely bizarre, and it’s unclear exactly what is causing the issue in-game, but it certainly resembles General Grievous. Players in the thread pointed out the similarity, with one quoting Obi-Wan’s famous line against the villain, “Hello there.” While otherLast of Usglitches show birds flying out of the enemy’s bodies, this one has hands coming out instead - it’s hard to decide which one is weirder.
Some in the thread compared the level of gore seen in the video to oldMortal Kombatgames, “where people would explode into piles of bones with multiple ribcages and skulls,” even implying that it could be a homage. WhileThe Last of Usis no stranger to Easter eggsand homages, it’s definitely more likely that this particular instance is just a simple glitch.
The franchise is currently experiencing a huge moment in the mainstream at the moment, for both good and bad reasons. The success of the HBO TV adaptation made even non-gamers take note of the franchise, bringing it to a brand-new audience in a successful-yet-faithful way. Meanwhile, thedisastrous PC port ofThe Last of Us Part 1left gamers who had waited over a decade to play the original with a sour taste in their mouths. While Naughty Dog has since released various patches in an attempt to fix the game, it remains an extremely poor port, and it could take a huge level of dedication from the developer going forward to get it where it needs to be. It remains to be seen how much longer Naughty Dog will attempt to salvage the game.
