One of this year’s most anticipated games,The Last of Us 2,has received yet another release date. The new release date follows a massiveLast of Us 2leakthat emerged online yesterday, revealing new gameplay, cutscenes, and plenty of spoiler-filled plot points.  It’s possible the announcement is in response to that.

BeforeLast of Us 2was indefinitely delayed, it was intended to release in May. However, due to circumstances caused by the coronavirus, the game was delayed with no date. Fans can now expect to playThe Last of Us 2on June 19, far sooner than some had anticipated considering the cause of the delay. Still, that should excite fans, even if major spoilers are now in the wild.

Unfortunately, there’s also some not so great news. Originally intended to release in June,Ghost of Tsushimahas been pushed back to July 17th, about a month after it was supposed to release. The move should allow both games to have some breathing room, ensuring that neither steps on the other’s toes. Plus, it makes sense that PlayStation would wantLast of Us 2out first. It’s arguably the more anticipated game, and the leaks mean that it’s at risk of being ruined for some of its audience.

Hopefully, there won’t be any more delays for either title. The uncertain nature of global supply chains is cause for some concern, but givenThe Last of Us 2’sdevelopment timeline, it seems incredibly likely that at least it will hit.Ghost of Tsushimahas also been progressing for years, so its date seems fairly reliable too, assuming physical copies can be manufactured and shipped in time.

Naughty Dog has been working away atThe Last of Us 2for years, though some have called outNaughty Dog’s crunch cultureof late, with the studio reportedly having trouble keeping veteran developers due to working conditions. Some believe an angry employee is responsible forThe Last of Us 2’splot leaking, and considering the footage, that seems pretty likely.

For now, all anyone can do is wait and try to avoid spoilers. The games really aren’t that far away now, and should be an amazing sendoff for the PS4’s final year.

The Last of Us 2will release on June 19th, 2020, for PS4.
