The following contains STORY AND GAMEPLAY SPOILERS for Rocksteady Studios’Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.

Summary

Despite plenty of controversy, Rocksteady’sSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguehas managed to garner a decent following, and even a “Very Positive” review score on Steam. As such, players are still enjoying the latest addition toRocksteady’s Arkhamverse, with many even already in its endgame. That being said,Kill the Justice Leagueboasts a multitude of mechanics that aren’t found in theBatman: Arkhamseries, leaving many still discovering its ins and outs.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leagueis a massive leap ahead of theBatman: Arkhamseries, both in terms of its gameplay evolution and its live-service model. This means that there are plenty of unwritten rules for players to become acclimated to, some of which may not even show themselves until very late in the game. In some ways, these unwritten rules are parallel to those of most action-adventure games, butKill the Justice Leaguehas unique and often hidden mechanics that can still be difficult to get used to.

Prioritize Completing the Story

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’s story isn’t as lengthy as some of theBatman: Arkhamgames, which actually works in the player’s favor. While the story is necessary to set upKill the Justice League’s endgame, the endgame activities are far more rewarding. Additionally, asKill the Justice Leagueis a live-service game, its endgame will only get more rewarding as more content is added in the future. As such, completing the story is essential to accessing the best of whatKill the Justice Leaguehas to offer.

Prioritize Maxing Out One Character

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguecurrently has four playable characters and Rocksteady has made plans to add more, so players might be tempted to regularly swap between characters as they complete the story. However, much ofKill the Justice League’s endgamecontent all but requires a Level 30 character due to its difficulty, making it best for players to prioritize maxing out one character’s level before they give attention to others. There are plenty of opportunities inKill the Justice League’s endgame to continue earning experience for the rest of the squad.

Perform Shield Harvests Regularly

Unlike many action-adventure games,Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguelacks healing items of any kind and instead relies on an ability called Shield Harvest to restore a character’s shields. First, players must put an enemy in a Harvestable state by either shooting them in the legs or performing aTraversal Attackon them. Once an enemy can be Shield Harvested, a blue shield icon will appear above their head and the player will receive an input prompt to perform a Shield Harvest on the enemy. This will restore a character’s shields or add a temporary shield bonus if that character’s shields are already full upon collecting the shields dropped by the enemy.

Counter Enemies When Able

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’s Countersare among the most powerful attacks in the game, particularly when they are used correctly. At times, enemies will become vulnerable to Counters, typically before or after they perform their signature attack. When an enemy can be Countered, a particular location on their person will be marked by orange lightning bolts. Hitting the designated area will then trigger a Critical Counter, dealing additional damage on top of the Counter effect.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguedoes a fairly good job of explaining its many mechanics. However, there are plenty of things the game doesn’t tell players outright that cannot even be found in the"Tutorials & Hints" section of the Codex, so knowing them can certainly give them the upper hand in combat.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’s Combat Flair Challenges aren’t explained in detail during the game, leaving players discovering their purpose through trial and error. During most combat situations, a box will appear at the bottom right of the screen that provides players with three challenges to complete. If they manage to complete them, they will be rewarded with health, shields, and 10 points towards their Combat Combo counter, so these challenges can prove to be more than worth the extra trouble.

One of the biggest secret mechanics ofSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leagueis found inPoison Ivy’s Afflictions. While the game does attempt to spell out that each Affliction comes with a downside (like the fact that Frozen enemies take greatly reduced damage from Melee), what it doesn’t tell players is that Shield Harvests cannot be performed on Afflicted enemies unless players use a Traversal Skill against them. As Traversal Skills typically kill grunts, Afflictions can make staying alive very difficult in challenging battles.

…Shield Harvests cannot be performed on Afflicted enemies unless players use a Traversal Skill against them.

Occasionally, enemies will enter an invulnerable state, where each attempted shot at them deals zero damage. However, they can be brought out of this invulnerable state with a well-placed grenade, or a Traversal/Melee attack. Finally, anytime the game requires players to kill Brute enemies, they should look to the sky, as Choppers are very easy to take down and count as Brute kills.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguehas an incredible number of unwritten rules, and it’s likely those rules will continue piling up as Rocksteady adds more content down the line. However, if players can master these often complex mechanics, they’ll surely find themselves on a clear path to victory inKill the Justice League’s endgame and beyond.
