Inspired members of Reddit’sWitchercommunity have begun discussing what they think is best for the popularmonster hunting franchise. One particular user, fakemandarin, has pitched his unique idea to other fervent fans. He believes that the “Golden Age of Witchers” would be a perfect setting for a prequel game that he has tentatively titled:The Witchers: Golden Age.

“The Golden Age of Witchers” or “The Second Era” refers to a time inWitcherlore where the monster hunters fromthe five Witcher schoolsall stopped fighting each other and instead began diligently and efficiently completing their work. Witchers became plentiful and organized, nearly eradicating all monsters on The Continent. They eventually became the monsters themselves in the public’s eye, with there being no creatures left to hunt.

The idea of a prequelWitchergame set during the golden age is certainly an intriguing one. In the three mainline games released so far, Witchers are quite rare in the world. It could be incredibly engaging to pick one of the five schools to train with while players compete against or work with other wandering Witchers out in the world.Netflix is also working on a prequelWitcherseriesto run alongside its mainline adaptation starring Henry Cavill.

Of course, it would be hard to leave behind the series’ incredible characters like protagonist Geralt of Rivia and Ciri, among countless others. Still, the idea of a prequel in a different age and setting is an engaging one. WithNetflix’sThe Witcheradaptation launching its second seasonthis December and focusing on the franchise’s notable characters, maybe a new game could branch off and try something uniquely different like “The Golden Age”, working as a spin-off rather than a mainline title.

The Witcher 3: Wild Huntis available on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
