Marvel Studios' released aThor: Love and Thunderdeleted scene that reveals Simon Russell Beale’s Dionysus, the son of Russell Crowe’s Zeus, originally has a slightly more significant role.
Released throughIGN, the deletedThor: Love and Thunderscene features Chris Hemsworth’s God of Thunder, Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie, and director Taika Waititi’s Korg as they arrive in Omnipotence City in search of Zeus. However, they instead cross paths with Dionysus, but the spoiled god is less than cooperative at first.

As they arrive in the city, Korg can’t help but be taken aback by the “absolutely gorgeous” location. However, they are stopped by Dionysus, who is being pampered while passing by on his chariot. Dionysus informsThor and his cohortsthat they do not like strangers in Omnipotence City, but the God of Thunder tells him they simply want to see Zeus so they can speak to him about Gorr the God Butcher. Dionysus seems uninterested in their mission, but he inadvertently reveals Zeus' location to the trio while discussing his plans for the day.
Dionysus did appear inthe theatrical cut ofThor: Love and Thunder, but his role was limited. The character could be seen in the background of the Omnipotence City, but this deleted scene gives Beale significantly more time to chew off the scenery. Of course, being a deleted scene, this sequence is far from complete, as noted by the blue screen and Waititi’s motion-capture suit in certain shots.
Love and Thunderwas met with mixed reviews, and even many supporters of the film acknowledge that Waititi’sThor: Ragnarokis probably the superior film. Still, the filmwas not without its bright spots, and many view Zeus and his antics in Omnipotence City as one of the highlights ofThor: Love and Thunder. That said, less is often more, and this deleted scene merely points out how Thor and his team locate Zeus, which Waititi and Marvel Studios evidently felt was unnecessary in the grand scheme of the plot.
