The official website of theTouken Ranbumovie franchise has released a new trailer for the forthcoming film sequelTouken Ranbu the Movie: Dawn. The newly released trailer took the fans through the visuals of the movie and revealed more details about the highly anticipated film. Additional cast members and the film’s premiere date were unveiled in the teaser.
Touken Ranbuis a game launched in Japan on 2015 and took the world by a storm. Nitroplus and DMM Games collaborated to produce the film adaptation of the game. The first filmadaptation came out in 2019and eventually earned $26 million on the box office. It was announced soon after that the film will have a sequel titledTouken Ranbu the Movie: Dawn.The sequel was supposed to be released in 2021 but was rescheduled to premiere in 2023. It was revealed earlier this year that the film will be handled by the same team that took on the first installment of the film, including Saiji Yakumo as the director and the script will be written once again by Hideyuki Kobashi and Jin Haganeya.

The cast from the first installment of theTouken Ranbu film franchisewill be returning including Hiroki Suzuki as Mikazuki Munechika, Yoshihiro Aramaki as Yamanbagiri Kunihiro, Masanari Wada as Heshikiri Hasebe and Fuma Sadamoto as Honebami Toshiro. The new trailer revealed additional cast members to join the movie including Terunosuke Takezai as Seimei Abeno, Akira Emoto as Michinaga Fujiwara and Kanji Tsuda as Yorimitsu Fujiwara. The newly released trailer also confirmed that the film will premiere on July 25, 2025.
The first film was set during the Sengoku period, the same period when the Oda Nobunaga was assassinated. This time, the plot line of the film sequel is set in Kyoto during the mid-Heian period in 995. The story will revolve around the reign of Michinaga Fujiwara who wanted toslay the terrifying demonwho lives in Mt. Oe named Shuten-doji. Fujiwara secretly met with the group of Seimei Abeno and Yorimitsu Fujiwara to order them to take the life of the demon.
Touken Ranbuis extremely popular and has inspired numerous adaptations through various forms of media. Aside from the twolive-action films which were remarkably made, there are anime series, anime film and even a spinoff anime series based on the game. The franchise also had a series of musicals and several stage plays. With this level of popularity, it is not surprising that the film will gross millions on the box office.
