The mid-2000s saw Nintendo dominate the gaming landscape with the one-two punch of the Nintendo Wii andWii Sports, though the early days saw many a TV broken by thrown Wii-motes. Nintendo is revisiting part of this success with the release ofNintendo Switch Sports, bringing the simple but fun game up to modern consoles for Switch owners to enjoy. However, a streamer got to experience a very costly flashback to those earlyWii Sportsdays when they accidentally threw their Switch remote into their monitor on stream.
Nintendo Switch Sportsis the latest iteration of Nintendo’sSportsseries of games and the first since 2013’sWii Sports Clubon the Wii U. The game brings back tennis, bowling, and swordplay from the previous games and introduces soccer, vollyball, and badminton as new options to enjoy, with soccer implementing the leg strap fromRing Fit Adventure. Nintendo said golf will be added to the game in a free update later in 2022, but has not given a specific date as of this writing.

The clip making the rounds on social media featuresTwitch streamer63man as he is playing a round of doubles tennis on stream. Following his serve, 63man loses grip of one of his Switch’s Joy-Cons while going to hit the ball and hits something on his desk. He then turns the camera around to reveal a massive how badly he had broken one of his monitors, effectively breaking nearly a third of his screen.
As mentioned above, 63man’s experience on stream was one shared by many Wii owners back in 2006 when the Wii andWii Sportswas released. The first few months of the system’s lifecycle saw many players sharing stories of breaking their TVs while playingWii Sports, the most common reasons being players losing grip of the controller or swinging too hard and causing the wrist strap to snap. Whatever the reason, many aWii-motewas sent flying into and, ultimately, breaking many TVs during the system’s early days.
It is also fair for players to wonder if 63man’s clip is an omen of things to come for anyone who picked upNintendo Switch Sports. First, the individualSwitch Joy-Consare notably smaller than the old Wii-motes and if those were slipping out of players' hands, then it is won’t be surprising to learn 63man’s incident repeats itself. On top of that, the leg strap for soccer could also cause some accidents if some players aren’t mindful of their space while going to kick a ball.
