With the Steam Deck releasing later this year, many PC gamers will be able to take their favorite games on the go. Popular publisherUbisoftrecently hinted that it may be releasing games for the Steam Deck under one condition.

Pre-orders are rolling in on the Steam Deck andUbisoftis showing some interest in the mobile PC according to Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot. During a recent quarterly earnings call, Guillemot said that Ubisoft games would end up on the Steam Deck if it becomes big. The early popularity may suggest that the mobile PC will be big, but Ubisoft is taking the wait-and-see approach.

Steam Deck gamers will still be able to enjoy the Ubisoft titles already offered on Steam through the mobile PC. According to Guillemot, the success of the Steam Deck may result in far more Ubisoft titles coming to Steam. Steam has alreadysold out of Steam Deck pre-orders for 2021, and it is even now selling units for 2022.

While there are several Ubisoft titles on Steam currently, the publisher partnered withthe Epic Games Storeto offer its latest titles on that storefront exclusively. This allowed Ubisoft to keep more of the sales revenue than Steam’s 20-30% cut and drove more players to the Ubisoft store. Ubisoft may be looking at these numbers in order to see if it’s worth potentially losing the partnership with the Epic Games Store to sell titles on the Steam Deck.

Valve has already confirmed that theSteam Deckwill be able to run the Epic Games Store and other PC storefronts. This will allow fans of Ubisoft titles that own them on the Epic Games Store to still play those games. Yves Guillemot also confirmed during the earnings call that Ubisoft is enthusiastic about the Steam Deck. Guillemot hinted at his own interest in the portable gaming PC by touting the innovation behind the Steam Deck and other new hardware releasing lately. It seems that if the Steam Deck hits PS5 and Xbox Series X/S levels of popularity, Ubisoft’s Steam library will grow.

With the Steam Deck already selling out of 2021 models, some scalpers have already claimed several despiteValve implementing preventative measures. Scalpers have done this with various new hardware from graphics cards to countless units of Nintendo Switch, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S consoles. In spite of this issue, Ubisoft is apparently watching the success of the Steam Deck and if this level of demand continues, Ubisoft games may be on the portable PC sooner rather than later.
