Ubisoftseems to be looking into revitalizing its classicMight & Magicfranchise in the future, according to the company’s latest job listings. The popular publisher’s Shangai studio is looking for a new veteran game developer to “champion the brand marketing and product marketability” for its new project.
The lastMight & Magicgame thatUbisoftdeveloped and published was released in 2014 -Might & Magic X: Legacy- to mostly favorable reviews, though the community wasn’t too thrilled about it. A major issue withLegacywas that it was a dungeon crawling game, rather than a fully-fledged turn-based strategy that fans had grown to love.

Now, though, with Ubisoft Shanghai making it clear that it’s working on an entirely newMight & MagicAAA release, it seems that the company may be looking into giving the franchise another lease on life. While there’s no telling yet what this newMight & Magictitle will entail, the job listing does make it clear that the proper production pipeline is yet to be set up.
Specifically, Ubisoft Shanghai is looking for a Senior Brand Manager to work with the pre-existing team of developers to help reinvigorate theMight & Magicfranchise. The job description references defining the team’s product positioning strategy, making sure that the game is marketable, and helping with the creation and assessment of all related assets, among other duties. There have beenno mentions of Ubisoft Quartz so far, either.
Considering Ubisoft’s usual approach to classic game franchises with the upcomingSplinter CellandPrince of Persiaremakes, it’s interesting that the company isn’t looking to bringMight & Magicback into the spotlight with a similar legacy project. Instead, Ubisoft Shanghai seems to have an entirely new AAA product in mind. Since there’s no gameplay information listed in the job description, there’s also no way to tell if the game will be a full-on turn-based strategy, or if it would fall into a different genre, instead, such as the cult classicDark Messiah of Might & Magic.
On a closing note, hopefulMight & Magic fansought torememberBeyond Good and Evil 2- another Ubisoft franchise that was thought to have been permanently shelved, only to reappear years later as a major upcoming release. Its resurgence, however, was way back in 2016, and the game is still yet to come out. Hopefully, the same thing doesn’t happen with this newMight & Magicrelease, but it may be wise to keep a pinch of salt at hand.
