If a player wins every game they play, unlocking the seasonal cosmetics will take 783 games. Realistically, this number will be even higher, potentially resulting in over 800 games needed to unlock the premium holiday content. Players earn candy by playing matches with 10 pieces for a loss and 20 for a win. If a player is using a new Halloween premium skin, Combat Stripe, orCombat Gizmo, the reward is doubled. A loss in a premium skin is worth 20 candy while a win is worth 40. In a team game, if each player is wearing one of the eligible premium skins then each player gets an extra 20 candy for a win or a loss. Adding the cost of the Candy Store unlockables adds up to 16,650 pieces of candy for all the content.

The Candy Shop is only available for the next 30 days, which means an average of 26 games a day for 30 days. The math gets better if a player purchases one of the eligible costumes, bringing the total down to only 392 winning games. Extra candy left over at the end of the event can be used to purchase 50 gold for every 500 candy. Gold, a non-premium currency, can be used topurchase newMultiVersusfighters.

Exclusive content behind an event-specific currency is considered standard operating procedure for live service titles. TheMultiVersusbattlepassis no exception despite being structured differently from other free-to-play games. Asking players to commit over 780 hours for the next 30 days is either absurd or perfectly reasonable depending on which group of fans is being asked. Regardless, over 20 million gamers have taken part inMultiVersusand the currently running Halloween event will likely be another success for Player First.
