Outridersis one of the best-selling games at the moment, and part of its success is due to how its endgame blends withits looter shooter elements. The game features many legendary items for players to farm, and getting ones they don’t really need is not that big of an issue thanks to the crafting system.Outridershas a very straightforward crafting system, and mods can be added onto weapons and armor in order to strengthen characters.

There are many mods inOutriders, and they rank from lowest (Tier 1) to highest (Tier 3), where the best ones are typically Tier 3 mods. Items have levels, and higher levels provide better values overall, both on mods and on attributes. Of course, high-level items also mean a significant increase in Weapon Damage on guns, and an incremental boost to Armor. Crafting can also be used to upgrade items to improve their rarity, but Epic gear cannot be upgraded to Legendary, and Legendary items are the highest rarity tier possible for an item. Despite how useful and how relevant crafting is, there is one thing that can never be changed, and that is attributes.

The Importance Of Attributes

Attributes are a significant aspect of weapons and armor inOutridersbecause they provide additional stats that usually impact the gamers' build a lot more than what meets the eye, especially considering all the builds available for thefour classes in the game. Attributes include:

Depending on thecharactersOutridersplayers want to build, attributes play a big role in how successful the build is. This is because they add to each other, so having five pieces of armor all with the best attributes for the player’s build makes it much stronger. It is very advisable to check which attributes suit a build the best because there is no changing them, unfortunately.

Some Context On Outriders' Crafting System And God Rolls

Right now, the game is in a pretty good state, despite some technical issues and some glitches that are still occurring.Outridersis a looter shooter RPG, which means it is heavily focused on grinding for gear and good items. The hunt is fun, but it’s also long, and sometimes even frustrating, especially so for players who have builtall four classes.

Because of this, players that are willing tomaximize their characters' buildsfound alternative methods to running the sheer amount of expeditions, monster hunt quests, and bounty hunt quests necessary. One of them includes upgrading Rare items to Epic in the crafting window, and this is done for mainly two reasons. These items acquire their Tier 2 mod with the players choosing it from a selection of three possible mods, thus having some degree of agency towards the end result. More importantly, this method allows upgrading perfectly rolled Rare gear to Epic, and having all the right attributes for it more easily than it would be hunting for the so-called “god rolls.”

How Outriders Could Improve Its Crafting System

With this in mind, it is easy to see that players will always find creative ways to solve problems within a game, no one wants grinding to become a chore. Nonetheless, the current system prevents players from actually changing the attributes on items as they see fit. Another thing to note is,Legendary itemsare all “curated rolls,” meaning they always come with the same set of attributes and mods, and the values change according to the items' level and a range within which attributes can roll.

What this means is, sometimes Epic loot ends up being sub-par when in truth it’s the second-best rarity gamers can get on their gear. Not only that, but some Legendary weapons and Legendary pieces of Armor that are part of a set end up being overlooked because their attributes are fixed. For example, if players want to use aspecific Legendary setthat fits their Firepower builds, they may end up not doing so due to the pieces not having the Firepower stat on them.

So,what couldOutridersdo to changethis? The first, most obvious solution would be to allow players to have some degree of control over the attributes rolled on their gear. Choosing all attributes would remove the challenge and the fun of the hunt, and it would hurt player retention, but being able to change at least one out of three (either randomly or via choice) could help.

Also, being able tochange attributes on Legendary items could open up build varietyeven more. This could be achieved by sacrificing a few copies of the same item to have it randomly roll new attributes while retaining the curated roll on the mods. Another option would be introducing a new kind of item — possibly, a sort of catalyst, being a rare drop from Gold Chests in Expeditions — to have players choose one of the three randomly rolled attributes on the new Legendary piece obtained with the above method.

These small, yet significant changes could grantOutridersmore benefits than one would think. All loot-based games do need their grind, but taking away some discouraging elements from it could end up extending the lifespan of the game, making it always fresh and interesting.

Outridersis available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
