Tiny Tina’s Wonderlandswas only announced a few weeks back at Summer Game Fest, and fans currently know little about the game. Set to release in early 2022,Borderlandsfans only have the first trailer and some minor details to go off. As such, players are patiently waiting for news regarding the fantasy-focused adventure, as many are wondering just how differently it will play from other games in the series. However, it is no longer the only game thatBorderlandslovers have to consider.
While it will be interesting to learn Tina’s Wonderlands’ multi-class system, spells, and other features,Borderlands 4could be coming sooner rather than later. Not only was the sequel’s plot set up with theBorderlands 3Director’s Cut DLC, but it would make sense given the type of game that Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands will be. With rumors already beginning to spread aboutBorderlands 4, too, it is not too early to begin theorizing about what it could look like.

The First Borderlands 4 Rumors Are Already Starting To Spread
When first thinking about the game and what it could be like,Borderlands 4may seem far off. After all, the seven-year gap betweenBorderlands 2andBorderlands 3was massive, with many waiting patiently for the next major adventure. However, there is good reason to believe that the next game will come sooner. Aside from avoiding the development troubles of the threequel, a recent rumor suggests that Gearbox developers are already location scouting forBorderlands 4.
TheBorderlands 4rumorcomes courtesy of theGame Scoop!podcast, which saw someone call in and bring up an experience they had when exploring some caves. According to the tour guide, someone had visited that same cave and claimed to be a Gearbox programmer that was working onBorderlands 4. While the source is certainly questionable, and the rumor could have no weight to it, the fact that it has appeared at all is interesting. With information on the next big game already starting to leak, it is hard to argue against theBorderlandscommunity discussing the fourth numbered entry in the series.

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands’ Status As A Cross-Gen Game
WhileTiny Tina’s Wonderlandswill surely be the immediate focus of Gearbox, as the game is set to launch near the start of next year, it does not mean that the studio cannot start development onBorderlands 4. In fact, it would make sense if it did just that, asTiny Tina’s Wonderlandsis a cross-gen game. With it launching on both platforms, it is unlikely to be verydifferent fromBorderlands 3in terms of its visuals. Instead, the main differences coming from its setting, story, enemies, and mechanics.
WithTiny Tina’s Wonderlandsbeing aspinoff likeBorderlands: The Pre-Sequelas opposed to a full-on release, the game is unlikely to feel next-gen. It will likely be a bit less complicated to make because of this, with Gearbox not needing to change as much forTiny Tina’s Wonderlandsas they would for a proper, next-gen onlyBorderlandsgame. As such, the developer could be able to split attention between the two titles, laying the groundwork for a true next-gen successor while also working on Tina’s next adventure.
It is important to note that theBorderlands 4rumor only suggests that location scouting is being done, implying that the next game would still be early in development. Not only does this make sense because ofTiny Tina’s Wonderlands, but it lines up with the fact thatBorderlands 3’s post-launch supportis only starting to wrap up now. Even if the rumor is false, though, the important thing is that it has gotten the discussion aboutBorderlands 4started. While it is not nearly as concrete as an official announcement, fans have at least one rumor to justify their speculation. As such, while most assumed it would be coming eventually, there is good reason to begin theorizing aboutBorderlands 4right now.
