Pokemon Scarlet and Violetintroduce three major characters to coincide with each of its major storylines: there is themain rival Nemona, the food enthusiast Arven, and the shy, Eevee-loving Penny. While each of these characters may prove to be a personal favorite to manyPokemon Scarlet and Violetfans, it seems Nemona is currently dominating the conversation.
On Twitter, Nemona has begun trending with over 14,000 tweets as of this writing. While a lot of it is just fan support for the newPokemon Scarlet and Violetcharacter, the inciting reason is much more in-depth and potentially reveals a key detail about her character that many may not have realized.

A tweet by Twitter account BRANDO highlights how many consider Nemona to be clingy or obsessive when that’s really the truth. They highlight how Nemona actually hyper-fixates on Pokemon battling, and while players battle Nemona a lot, so did they withHop inPokemon Sword and Shield. The difference is just how hyper-fixated Nemona is and their reasons for battling the player, and as many fans realize throughout this discussion, it seems Nemona was written to be neurodivergent. There are times when her fixation with battling overrides social cues, times when she ignores social cues regardless, and it’s a clear representation of neurodivergence inPokemon Scarlet and Violet.
Truth is, this also fits in withPokemon Scarlet and Violet’s approach to characters. Larry, for example, highlights the grim realism of working as a professional Pokemon trainer, reflecting adults in the modern day. Meanwhile, Arven represents what it’s like to have a single, absentee parent, and Penny (as well as the entire Team Star storyline) is about finding friends and being bullied. Nemona’s trait perfectly fits in with thegame world crafted inPokemon Scarlet and Violet.
Of course, this is an important conversation and is the dominating reason why Nemona is trending on Twitter. Many have hopped on the bandwagon, however, to discuss a forced dialogue scene with her (that appears inplenty ofPokemongames). Others are just sharing their love for their character, while many are also comparing Nemona to Goku. What’s clear is how Nemona has endeared herself to players, while staying true to her personality throughout the entire game.
