Capcom are an incredibly beloved company who havedeveloped games for a plethora of different genres. They are well known for being massive innovators, with the likes ofResident EvilandDevil May Crycompletely changing the way people see the action and horror genres within gaming, but aside from the gameplay itself, they’ve also established some incredibly captivating and engaging worlds too.

Since Capcom often covers quite serious, and even dark topics in their stories, it does mean that a lot of their game worlds in general can seem pretty terrifying. When followinga badass protagonistwho is kitted-out with a full set of lethal weapons, these gruesome worlds might not seem so scary, but as a regular civilian just trying to get by, it would be a whole different story. These are the game worlds created by Capcom that would undoubtedly be the most unpleasant, scary, and horrifying to live in.

While the fantasy world ofMonster Hunteris packed full of giant monsters who will willingly tear their prey limb from limb, the people who have gathered in the villages and tribes have at least designed weapons and technology that can help take down these fearsome creatures. Still, while handling a few Jagras might not be much of a problem, taking down something as dangerous as anElder Dragonis a much harder task, and they could easily reek havoc in a populated area if the very best Hunters weren’t already on patrol.

The story of theMonster Huntergames may usually take a backseat to the gameplay, but it’s clear that they are still set in a world that has been long-forgotten, but that can still be rebuilt with enough time and effort. This does inspire a lot of hope and determination among the people which would make the world bearable to live in, but the amount of risk and reward that comes with being a Hunter still makes it extremely dangerous.

TheLost Planetgames are set in a universe where Earth is no longer inhabitable, with humans jumping from planet to planet as they desperately try to find a place to call home. This inevitably leads to a lot ofconflict and warwhere the humans and the aliens standing in their way will go above and beyond to conquer the land, meaning that if someone were to be living in this game world, they would undoubtedly be another cog in the war machine.

Constantly fighting day and night without knowing when, or if, there will ever be an end to the conflict wouldn’t be easy, and the sheer variety of unpredictable aliens that could show up makes each excursion extremely dangerous. There are still somelighthearted momentsshared by the troops that are shown within the games themselves, but these scenes are few and far between because of how bleak the world can be.

Terrifying Ghouls And Creepy Ghosts Make For A Very Unsettling Combo

The world of the originalGhosts ‘n Goblinswas already creepy enough, but in the sequel that was released three years later, the unsettling Ghosts that roamed the land were now partnered up with mindless Ghouls who were far scarier, and a lot harder to avoid in the game. This is only the tip of the iceberg though, as once these forces arrive to take revenge for being defeated in the previous game, they also rob the souls of all the villagers that live in the Princess’ luxurious kingdom.

Throughout the entire game, these souls must remain in limbo until theplucky knight known as Arthuris able to finally defeat Lucifer, but even for those who don’t live inside the castle walls, they would still need to defend themselves against the horrors that walk the earth, looking for another body to consume.

Devil May Cry’scheesy nature and charismatic main characters can make the world seem a lot more lighthearted than it actually is. Every time a group of bloodthirsty demons arrive out of nowhere to face Dante, it’s an excuse to get some exercise in, or rack up someflashy combos, but if this were a regular civilian, the only option would be to run for the hills. There are actually a few times that fans are able to see regular people in the games, such as at the beginning of the fifth game, but they are always shown to be terrified, which makes the world in general seem very anxiety-inducing to live in.

There’s also the fact that the number of people who are actually capable of dealing with the demons is incredibly small, with Dante, Vergil and Nero being the only ones who have proved that they are capable of handling a very serious threat. If someone enjoys the idea of running back to theDevil May Cry shopevery few hours to ask for a demon cleanout, then they may enjoy this game world, but for everyone else, it would be pretty unpleasant.

Living in a world where zombies are a reality is bad no matter what, but because of how frequent thebiohazard attacks and outbreaksare in the world ofResident Evil, it means that there is literally nowhere that feels safe. Rather than the terrifying Raccoon City Incident reducing the number of outbreaks, there has actually been far more, as multiple groups have been able to use Biorganic Weapons to spread influence and make money, with this occurring on an international scale.

Regular civilians have been shown to still be capable of handling themselves in the games, such as Ethan making it out ofthe Baker Mansion inResident Evil 7, but as many fans know, this comes at a massive cost. The games and movies even make subtle references to how it’s strange that entire populations keep getting wiped out by experiments gone wrong, to the point where it’s become almost comical. Everyone in the world ofResident Evilis either living with the trauma of a previous outbreak, or waiting for the next one to inevitably arrive, and that’s certainly not a great way to live.

What makes the world ofDead Risingjust a little bit worse thanResident Evilis that, unlike the latter game, the special forces are hostile rather than supportive, making them just as dangerous as the zombies. InResident Evil, you have S.T.A.R.S and, later on, the B.S.A.A, along with a few smaller groups who do all they can to help, butDead Risingdoesn’t really work this way. InDead Rising 2for example, the outbreak was purposefully orchestrated to force the people of Las Vegas to buy more Zombrex, but there’s never any special agents or task force to save the civilians.

Additionally, when they do show up in the first game, they have sworn allegiance to the government, and will kill any survivors to cover up their tracks, meaning that if someone does get stuck in an outbreak, they won’t last very long either way. The fact that businesses and corporations in this world also have the power to turn a city as big as Las Vegas into a mindless zombie pit at the press of a button is truly terrifying. InDead Rising 3, it’s even revealed that Zombrex can stop working, causing yet another outbreak. The world ofDead Risingjust hasn’t quite figured out how to deal with these sorts of situations, unlike some other games, and it makes living in it a very unsettling thought.
