WithWWE 2K20standing out as one of the worst-rated pro wrestling video games ever made, there’s a lot riding onWWE 2K22’s success. It definitely seems as though 2K Sports and Visual Concepts are going all out with the next entry in the long-running franchise, taking extra time to develop the game and ensure that it’s better-received than its predecessor. This attempt at a comeback afterWWE 2K20’s failureincludes some rather ambitious and risky changes, likeWWE 2K22’s new control scheme.
2K Sports recently touched on10 features inWWE 2K22for fans to look forward to, and among these is a new control scheme. The newWWE 2K22control scheme is making some drastic changes to how fans play the game, like making the B/Circle button initiate a “Grapple” instead of being used for pinning and Irish Whips. The Y/Triangle button will be used for reversals still, but there will also be an option to block if players hold it. X/Square Button and A/X button are used for light and heavy strikes, respectively, while holding the right trigger and using the face buttons will allowWWE 2K22players to hit their Finisher and Signature moves, as well as initiate the Payback and Submission features.

TheWWE 2Kgames have used basically the same control scheme for years, and so changing things up withWWE 2K22is certainly a risky move. On one hand, the new control scheme could improve the gameplay experience and make it more fun to play, but on the other hand, it could also end up alienating players who are used to the old controls. Ultimately, fans won’t know what to make of theWWE 2K22controls for sure until they are able to play the game for themselves, and theWWE 2K22release date sometime in March, it will still be a few months before they get to do so.
