Within this process was the creation of the costume Kravitz would wear throughoutThe Batman. As filming began,Kravitz came up with an inventive idea for her character. “We shot two months before quarantine and everything shut down, so in that time, I started to grow my nails out because we couldn’t get manicures and then I had this idea to take it further…” Kravitz said. “So I called Matt and I was like, I have this idea, we should do crazy, bitchy, wonderful scary nails that looked like claws. No nail polish on them so they looked more like claws.”

Thisaddition to Catwoman’s costumecan be spotted throughout trailers forThe Batman, including its latest. Kravitz called the costuming process “extremely collaborative” and recounted that the film’s costume designer arrived in New York to begin measuring her for her look a week after Kravitz got the part. “Matt Reeves is an incredibly collaborative filmmaker who likes to get to know the person playing the character, so I didn’t have to fight for anything – it was designed that way,” Kravitz said.

Other minute details of Kravitz’s character have begun to reveal themselves throughout the teasers forThe Batman. In the most recent trailer, Catwoman is seen to have taken in many cats, to which she remarks: “I have a thing for strays.” Kravitz noted that working extensively with cats forThe Batmanwas one of the most humoring parts behind the scenes. “Like after all the car flips and fights and chases, one of the hardest things to do on set was getting the cats to stay put.” Kravitz said.

Throughout Kravitz’s Catwoman look, there are inspirations from previous actresseslike Pfeiffer, Berry, and Hathaway. The staple black suit and small cat ears at the back of her mask are stunning recalls to not only the previous Catwoman actresses, but the traditional look of the character in the DC Comics. The new details that Kravitz has introduced not only continue to make her version of the character different than her predecessors but may continue to inspire new additions for other DC characters for years to come.

The Batmanwill release in theaters on Aug 06, 2025.
